Use Evergreen on your phone

Add Evergreen to your Home Screen and turn on push notifications, so you can answer your sessions from anywhere.

  • 5 minutes

Evergreen works in your phone’s browser, and you can add it to your Home Screen so it opens like an app. Sessions keep running when you close it. Push notifications tell you when one needs you, such as a plan to approve or a question to answer.

Add Evergreen to your Home Screen

Once it’s installed, Evergreen opens full screen with its own icon. A notification you tap takes you straight to the session that needs you, and the icon shows a badge for what’s waiting on you.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Evergreen in Safari

Sign in as you normally would.

  2. Tap Share

    Find Share in Safari’s toolbar.

  3. Add it

Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add. Evergreen is on your Home Screen.

You can find the same steps in Evergreen. Open the account menu and choose Get the apps, and the Add Evergreen to your Home Screen panel lists them.

On Android

  1. Open Evergreen in Chrome

Sign in as you normally would.

  2. Install it

Open the account menu, choose Get the apps, then choose Install app. Chrome shows its own install dialog. Chrome’s menu has an Install app item too.

After it’s installed on Android, you can share a link or a file from another app to Evergreen. It opens New with what you shared filled in as the start of the brief.

Turn on push notifications

Push notifications reach your phone even when Evergreen is closed. You turn them on for each device, so set them up on your phone once it’s installed.

Note

On iPhone and iPad, push notifications work only in the app you added to your Home Screen, not in a Safari tab. Open Evergreen from the Home Screen icon before you turn them on. iOS and iPadOS need to be on version 16.4 or later.

  1. Open Notifications

In Evergreen, open Settings › Notifications.

  2. Find your device

Under Push notifications, find This device.

  3. Turn it on

Switch This device on, and allow notifications when your phone asks. It asks when you tap the switch.

If you don’t see a Push notifications group, push notifications aren’t available in your workspace yet.

Choose what reaches your phone

Each device keeps its own settings.

Setting What it does
Sessions Picks which sessions’ asks reach this device: Nothing, Sessions I own, or Sessions I own or joined. Mentions and adds always reach it.
Pull requests and finished sessions Adds the bell’s updates to its asks.
Quiet while I’m on my computer Skips this phone while you’re using Evergreen on a computer, where you’d already see it.

The same list shows your other devices. Choose Remove on one to stop notifications there.

Fine-tune by category

The grid on Settings › Notifications also lets you choose, one category at a time, whether it reaches Notifications, Push, and Slack. The categories are grouped under Needs you and Updates. Plan approvals, Questions and permissions for you, Follow-up approvals, and Requests to join your sessions always stay in your notifications, because a session is waiting on you for them. Their Notifications column says Always.

If a notification doesn’t show

  • The browser or phone has blocked notifications for Evergreen. Allow them in its site settings, then turn This device on again.
  • On iPhone or iPad, you turned push on from a Safari tab. Open the Home Screen app and turn it on there.
  • Sessions is set to Nothing, or the category is off in the grid.
