Use Sentry with Evergreen
Connect Sentry so the agent can find, analyze, and triage the errors your projects report, as you.
The Sentry integration lets the agent look into the errors your projects report. It works from the same stack traces and context you’d open yourself, and it has the permissions your Sentry account has.
What the agent can do
- Search issues and events across your Sentry organizations.
- Read stack traces, breadcrumbs, tags, and releases.
- Run Seer, Sentry’s own root-cause analysis, on an issue.
- Resolve, assign, and comment on issues when you ask.
- Look up Sentry’s documentation.
Sentry also publishes its own skills for debugging an issue, making stack traces readable, and setting up alerts. When you’ve connected Sentry, the agent uses them in your sessions.
When you point the agent at an issue, it traces the failing frames into your code. If the task asks for a fix, it’s told to fix the cause rather than the symptom. Otherwise it reports the cause. It names the Sentry issue by its URL and short ID in its reply, and in the pull request when one opens.
Who can connect it
An Owner or Admin installs it for the workspace. Then each person connects their own Sentry account. Sentry signs in on its own, so there’s no app to create. If your Owners and Admins have turned on Members can connect integrations that need no setup, a member can connect without waiting for an install. See How integrations work for that setting.
Connect Sentry
-
Open Integrations
An Owner or Admin opens Workspace settings › Integrations, finds Sentry, and chooses Install.
-
Sign in
Choose Sign in as yourself. Sentry opens its own consent page, you approve the request, and you come back to Evergreen. This becomes your own connection, and the card reads Connected as followed by your email.
-
Choose who can use it
Pick Everyone, Selected audiences, or Only me, then finish the install.
-
Connect each person
Each person goes to Settings › Integrations, finds Sentry, and chooses Connect.
To end the connection, choose Disconnect on Settings › Integrations. Evergreen also asks Sentry to revoke the grant. You can see and revoke it in Sentry under Settings › Account › Authorized Applications.
What it asks before changing things
While the agent plans, it reads. Resolving, assigning, and commenting on issues become available once you approve the plan, or from the start if you skip the plan. The agent is told to do those only when the task asks. See Plans and asks for how approval works.
An Owner or Admin can block individual tools for everyone on the Tools tab in Manage.
Start sessions from Sentry
An automation can start a session when Sentry reports a new issue or sends an issue alert. See Start sessions automatically.
Limits
- The integration works with Sentry’s hosted service. Evergreen hasn’t been tried with a self-hosted Sentry.
- The agent sees the Sentry organizations and projects your account can see.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The sign-in was canceled or took too long | Try again and finish the sign-in in the same tab. |
| The agent can’t find an issue you can see | Check that your Sentry account is a member of the organization that owns the project. |
| The Sentry card shows Reconnect | Your authorization lapsed. Choose Reconnect to sign in again. |
| You want to revoke Evergreen’s access | Choose Disconnect on Settings › Integrations, or revoke it in Sentry under Settings › Account › Authorized Applications. |
| There’s no Install button | Only Owners and Admins install integrations. Ask one of them, or choose Request. |
