Use Linear with Evergreen
Connect Linear so the agent can find, read, and update your team's issues, projects, and documents as you.
The Linear integration lets the agent work in Linear the way you would. It reads the issue behind a change, and it can update that issue when you ask. It has the permissions your Linear account has, and changes carry your name.
What the agent can do
- Search issues, projects, cycles, and documents across your Linear workspace.
- Read whole issues with their comments, labels, status, and assignee.
- File, edit, comment on, and move issues when you ask.
- Read projects, milestones, and team workflows.
When your task names an issue, such as ENG-123 or a linear.app link, the agent reads it and its comments before it plans. When the work ends in commits, it’s told to put the issue identifier in the branch name, the commit messages, and the pull request title, so Linear links them.
Who can connect it
An Owner or Admin installs it for the workspace. Then each person connects their own Linear account. Linear signs in on its own, so there’s no app to create. If your Owners and Admins have turned on Members can connect integrations that need no setup, a member can connect without waiting for an install. See How integrations work for that setting.
Connect Linear
-
Open Integrations
An Owner or Admin opens Workspace settings › Integrations, finds Linear, and chooses Install.
-
Sign in
Choose Sign in as yourself. Linear opens, you approve the request, and you come back to Evergreen. This becomes your own connection.
-
Choose who can use it
Pick Everyone, Selected audiences, or Only me, then finish the install.
-
Connect each person
Each person goes to Settings › Integrations, finds Linear, and chooses Connect.
What it asks before changing things
While the agent plans, it reads. Filing, editing, commenting on, and moving issues become available once you approve the plan, or from the start if you skip the plan. The agent is told to do those only when the task asks. See Plans and asks for how approval works.
An Owner or Admin can block individual tools for everyone on the Tools tab in Manage. Blocked tools aren’t offered to the agent in anyone’s session.
Limits
- The agent sees the Linear workspace your account can see.
- Linear’s own MCP server decides what the agent can do, so what it offers can change on Linear’s side.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The sign-in was canceled or took too long | Try again and finish the sign-in in the same tab. |
| The agent can’t find an issue you can see | Check that the issue is in the Linear workspace you connected. |
| The Linear card shows Reconnect | Your authorization lapsed. Choose Reconnect to sign in again. |
| There’s no Install button | Only Owners and Admins install integrations. Ask one of them, or choose Request. |
